Welcome to St. Louis, Missouri home of the Busch Stadium, sometimes referred to as the “Busch Stadium III” or the “New Busch Stadium” because of its history. The Busch Stadium is home to the St. Louis Cardinals has one of the most unique histories in the sports stadium history. It is the third stadium to hold the “Busch” name, the original holder of the name was Sportsman's Park, short renamed after the Cardinals team owner Gussie Busch. In 1966 it was closed and the Busch Memorial Stadium was built to accompany the Cardinals and the newly arrived National Football League's St. Louis Cardinals. After a long fight for funds and approved building writes the third and possibly final stadium was built, the currently standing Busch Stadium. It is easy to see why the stadium goes by several names, even the stadiums owners sometimes refer to it as the “New Busch Stadium.” The stadium was opened in April 2006 after three major phases of construction had been completed. The stadiums designers were HOK
Sport, who built the large seating area to fit a
total capacity of over 46,000. The impressive
structure has served the two teams for a total
of six successful years and is projected to
continue along its high attendance path for the
remainder of its life. During the stadium's 2006
season (Opening year) it saw a massive swarm of
3.4 million fans in attendance over the season.
Every game was sold out and every seat filled,
making it the second largest season in the
team's history. As an opening venue the field
hosted its first playoff games with the home
team Cardinals defeating the San Diego Padres
with a three game to one in the final series, an
impressive feat and great promotion of the newly
constructed stadium. The projected success of
this great stadium is due to the fantastic array
of sports events you have the opportunity to
enjoy, don't miss out!
