If you want to see a show that reveals what Broadway is all about, then Phantom of the Opera is the show that you have to check out. Andrew Lloyd Webber brilliantly adapted his creation, Phantom of the Opera, from a French novel, Le Fontime de l'Opera. Not only did Andrew Lloyd Webber write the book for his play, but he also wrote the music for it, as well. Phantom of the Opera has been on Broadway since 1988, and it is the longest running musical in the history of Broadway.

The musical takes place in the late 1800's, in an opera in Paris, France. It is based around Christine Daee, who is put in the role of the opera's lead soprano after the former lead stormed off of the stage because she was convinced that the "Phantom" made the set's backdrop fall. Christine does an amazing job, pleasing the stunned owners, Firmin and Andre. Christine then reveals to her friend Meg that she has been taught by a teacher but she knows no other name for him other than the "Angel of Music". It is not long after this that Christine meets Raoul and the two take to each other very quickly.

Christine and the Phantom have a meeting and she is quite taking by this mysterious figure. He tells Christine that all he wants is to have a face that is not disfigured and to have Christine love him. Christine tells Raoul about her encounter, but Raoul thinks that she is making up the story. When Raoul actually finds out about the Phantom, he tries to have him imprisoned, but Christine has other plans. You will have to see the play for yourself if you want to know how the rest of this magnificent musical is played out.
