You know that no matter what show that you see on Broadway, it will be one of the most memorable experiences on your trip to New York City. With a variety of plays and musical around town, you know that you are going to find one that is right up your alley. One of the most popular shows that you can see right now on Broadway is The Full Monty. The Full Monty is a show that you will not soon forget and this show is a great way to spend an evening in New York City. Be sure to check out The Full Monty when you are this great city.

The Full Monty is based on a 1997 British comedy movie of the same name. The playbook for the version that you will see on Broadway was written by Terrance McNally and the musical score was written by David Yazbeck. The American version of this musical first appeared in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre in 2000. The musical was such a hit that they producers thought it was a great time to try it out on the most famous street for plays and musical in the world, Broadway. The Full Monty opened on Broadway in the same year of its preview in San Diego and found a home at the Eugene O'Neil Theatre in Broadway. From there, the musical branched out across the ocean and opened on London's Prince of Whales Theatre at the West End. The Full Monty was nominated for countless Tony, Drama Desk and Theatre Awards, taking home the prize with a Drama Desk Outstanding Music and a Theatre Award.

The location on of the musical is really the only thing that varies from the original movie. In the 1997 movie, the main characters are all unemployed men in Britain, while the American musical takes place in Buffalo, New York. The musical opens up to a very despondent town, Buffalo, where the once mighty steel producing plants have quiet down, leaving a wake of unemployment throughout the city. Six friends that were all laid off due to the steel mill's downsizing initiative, sit and contemplate their next move and where they can possibly find work. Two of our heroes find themselves hiding in a male strip club lavatory as their significant others sit and watch the men dance for money. Seeing this, Jerry and Dave have a great idea on how they can make some cash and that is by doing a male review. However, this is not going to be like a Chippendale's show, this show will push the envelope by having the men take of everything, The Full Monty.

The men set up auditions for their review and after seeing man after man shake their money makers, they finally decide on the dance crew that includes their former boss at the mill, Harold. Together, with the help of Jeanette Burmeister, a musician that has some experience in show business, they take their routine to the club, ready to go a step further than Chippendales, ready to go The Full Monty. This is one hilarious shoe that you do not want to miss out on when you are in the area.
