Tony Stewart, born May 20th, 1971 in Columbus, Indiana is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver running the #14 Office Depot/Oldspice car. Tony started racing go-carts when he was 7 years old and did very well at it. His father served as crew chief and car owner in these early years of racing, which were very important for his future success in not only NASCAR (being a two-time Sprint Cup Series Champion) but also USAC racing and Indy racing. Tony and his father shard a certain view on racing, they both HATED running second place. All Tony ever cared about was winning the biggest trophy in a competition, and he did several times over. His first championship, a 4-cycle rookie junior class race, set the tone for the rest of Tonyís career to date. He would win two more championships before moving on to bigger, faster cars with a little more attitude behind them. Tony settled in to open wheel machines in the USAC winning a triple-crown championship in USACís top touring divisions including Midget, Sprint, and Silver Crown racing types. From there, Tony moved to Indy where he won his first championship in 1997. From Indy, Tony moved to NASCARís Nationwide Series where he raced for Joe Gibbs. As he worked the ranks in his rookie season, he gained Rookie of the Year in 1999 giving him Rookie of the Year status in all three racing organizations (USAC, Indy, and NASCAR). During his rookie season in NASCAR, Tony also raced the Indy 500 and the Coca Cola 600 in the same day. He has completed this feat twice in his career, besting his times and mileage the second time around, setting a record for most miles driven in one day. Today, Tony holds 11 championships under his belt and is currently the owner Tony Stewart Racing. He also owns Eldora Speedway, the dirt track he used to race in USAC and co-owns Paducah International Speedway and Macon Speedway. Tony also gives back to the community as a philanthropist with the Tony Stewart Foundation. This foundation gives money to organizations dealing with chronically ill children, race car drivers injured in racing events, and the preservation of many types of animal species.
