Ryan Newman was born on December 8th, 1977 in South Bend, Indiana. He drives the #39 US Army car for Stewart Haas Racing. Ryan is the only NASCAR driver with a college degree, having graduated from Purdue University in 2001; his degree is in vehicle structure engineering. Ryan has won a handful of achievements including the 1996 USAC Silver Crown Rookie of the Year, 1999 USAC Weld Racing Silver Crown Series Championship, th 2002 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year, the Raybestos Rookie of the Year award in 2002, Sprint All-Star Race XVII winner, 2003 Driver of the Year, and he was the winner of the Daytona 500. All these amazing feats of driving excellence from a man who not only love racing and driving, but also understands how a vehicle is supposed to run and perform based on its structure. All of this college acquired knowledge fits nicely with his experience on the track, and thatís what makes Ryan Newman a force to be reckoned with on the track, and also a respected driver in the NASCAR ranks. To date, Ryanís stats in the Sprint Cup include 14 wins, 128 top ten finishes, and 46 poles. His best finish in the standings was 6th place. Ryanís track record in the Nationwide Series includes a best position of 28th in points, seven wins, 30 top ten finishes, and 12 poles. Ryan has also competed in the Camping World Truck Series since 2008. His overall standings in the Camping World Truck Series include his best finish of 49th in the standings, his one and only win to date (passing teammate Ron Hornaday with less than 5 laps left on Ryanís opening race in the series), three top ten finishes, and 1 pole. The Ryan Newman Foundation contributes to a number of causes including the awareness of spaying, neutering, and adopting dogs and cats, educate the population on the importance of conservation, and they also provide scholarship funding to students interested in auto racing careers.
