The Minnesota Wild are a very recent addition to the league, and not the first hockey team in the state. Originally, the state was home to the Minnesota North Stars before being moved to Dallas for financial problems. Now, the Northwest Division, Western Conference franchise is owned by Craig Leipold, managed by Canadian Chuck Fletcher, coached by Todd Richards, and captained by Finnish Mikko Koivu. They have appeared at one Division Championship, but sadly had not been able to approach the Stanley Cup finals nor enter the Conference Championships. Their first season held the emotionally charged game against the former Minnesota North Stars, known then as the Dallas Stars since the move. The Minnesota Wild triumphed in the game with a six to nothing victory over their forbearers. In 2004, during a lockout, Sergei Zholtok died of a heart condition at a European game in the hands of Darby Hendrickson, a fellow Minnesota Wild player. Unlike most other teams, the Wild have an unorthodox tradition of rotating captaincy of the team on a monthly basis and have done so since 2000 and for the first nine seasons. Mikko Koivu had been captain six times during this period and is now officially the team's permanent captain. For the 2009-10 season, the Minnesota Wild recorded thirty-eight wins, thirty-six losses, and eight overtime losses finishing the season with eighty-four points!
