Founded in 1993,
the Florida Panthers entered the league along
with the California Mighty Ducks in order to
maintain the league’s balance. Their home arena
is the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida,
and they are part of the Southeast Division of
the Eastern Conference. They have entered the
Conference Championships one time in 1995-96 and
are expected to be the only team to miss ten
consecutive playoffs following the 2010-11
season. Likely spending too much time enjoying
the rays the Sunshine State has to offer. They
were unique in that their inaugural season was
one of the best of all expansion teams, and even
the best of any NHL team to date. They are also
the only team in the NHL to have a .500 win
ratio against the team with the most Stanley
Cups, the Montreal Canadiens. After an excellent
initial three seasons, the team began to fall
apart and consistently poor trades, injuries,
and mismanagement has hampered any form of
growth and is causing serious problems on the
ice. As of the 2009-10, they have their first
season in five years with a negative win ratio.
They had thirty-two wins, thirty-seven losses,
and thirteen overtime losses with seventy-seven
season points.!
