The Alberta Oilers, now the Edmonton Oilers, were formed under the WHA umbrella in 1972, but moved to the NHL when the WHA folded. Upon entering the NHL, they were renamed the Edmonton Oilers in 1979. They are a Canadian Hockey team in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They immediately won five Stanley Cup Finals in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, and 1990. The Hockey Hall of Fame has honored the Oilers with dynasty status because of their consistently dominant ranking among all the teams in the league. They also hold two NHL records, one for most goals in a season at 446 in the 1983-84 season, and one for longest opening undefeated streak at fifteen games in 1984-85. Upon entering the NHL, Gretsky was a protected Oiler according to a personal services contract established between him and Pocklington which gave Pocklington the power to either get the Oilers admitted to the league, or prevent Gretsky from playing in the NHL. It was obvious Gretsky was a crowd favorite and the NHL could not lose the fan attention so the Oilers were allowed to join, with Gretsky under their jersey. In the 2009-10 season, they won twenty-seven games, lost forty-seven, and had eight overtime losses bringing their season score to just sixty-two points!
