This fairly recent American football team was admitted to the NFL as an expansion team along with the Carolina Panthers in 1995. The Jacksonville Jaguars are part of the South Division of the American Football Conference. They call the sunny and warm state of Florida their home, being located in the great city of Jacksonville. The stadium in which the Jaguars play all home games is called EverBank Field which is located near the famous St. Johns River. This stadium also houses the teams’ headquarters and is used for both practices and training camps.

Before football came to Jacksonville in the form of an NFL team, the city had a passion for the sport that brought football fans from around the nation to the city. The Gator Bowl has taken place in Jacksonville since 1946 at the same stadium that is used by the Jaguars. “The Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” – the name given to the annual SEC game played between the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs – is also held in Jacksonville. It is with such a deep background in football that the residents of Jacksonville welcomed the Jaguars with open arms.

The inaugural season was quite the success, especially for an expansion team. The Jaguars beat the previously set record for the most wins by an expansion team. Success followed with a playoff appearance in the 1996 season which then continued in ’97, ’98, and ’99. The team struggled in the years after such success but was able to reach playoffs again in ’05 and ’07. Today, ticket sales have gone down since past years.
