The Texas Tech University athletics program for football was sanctioned in 1925, and today they are part of the Big 12 Conference. Their stadium, Jones AT&T Stadium, can comfortably seat as many as sixty-one thousand people and is located in Lubbock, Texas. The team is appropriately sectioned into the South Division of the Big 12 Conference in the NCAA Division I-FBS league. Overall, the team has maintained a winning record with a win percentage of .563 and thirty-three postseason bowl games. Their all-time bowl record is eleven wins, twenty one losses, and one tie. They have won eleven conference titles, one division title, and advanced eleven consensus All-American players. Their fourteenth coach, Tommy Tuberville, was hired in January of 2010 and has yet to have a regular season game. Back in 1986, Spike Dykes took control of the Texas Tech team just before a solid season under David McWilliams propelled the team to the Independence Bowl. The team was barely beaten by Old Miss, but success with Spike Dykes showed hope. Over his thirteen year career at the school, his teams racked up eighty-two wins, sixty-seven losses, and a tie. He has the longest stint as head coach of all others to date, and has the record for most victories by a head coach at the school. Unique to the Red Raiders, upon entering the Big 12 Conference under Dykes, they are the only team that has avoided a losing season in the conference since its start. Dykes left in 2000, and Mike Leach gained the record for the coach with the most wins after him. He also gained the record of having the largest come-from-behind victory in a bowl game to date with a thirty-one point difference under the Minnesota Golden Gophers, after which the team evened the score in the third quarter, and won the game by three in overtime.
