The Oklahoma
Sooners football program came into existence in
1895, and has
since then become the most popular sports team
at the University. Norman,
Oklahoma plays host to over 82,000 when the
Sooners play at their home turf. With
head coach Bob Stoops running the show, the
Sooners have won six Big 12
Conference titles and one national championship.
Over his 11-year tenure, Stoops
has accumulated 117 victories and has only been
dealt 28 losses, leaving the head
ball coach with an astounding .807 winning
percentage during his time as head
coach of the Sooners.
One of the most heated rivalries in college
football becomes a border battle
between the Oklahoma Sooners and their lone star
counterparts the Texas
Longhorns. The battle, known throughout the
college football world as the Red River
Shootout, more than often plays a key role in
the Big 12 title matchup or sometimes
can even have national title implications. Every
year at the Cotton Bowl, thousands
upon thousands of fans come to support their
respective school in this gridiron
battle. With two losses in a row, the Sooners
are looking to get back to their winning
ways against their rivals in the 2010 season.
