The University of Miamiís athletics program, known as the Miami Hurricanes, is part of the Atlantic Coast Conference in the NCAA Division I-FBS. The program had its start in 1926 and is currently under the guidance of Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt, and the Head Coach Randy Shannon is entering his third year at the college with a win ratio over .500. Amazingly, their first game as a Miami team was composed entirely of freshman and ended the season with an eight wins and no losses record. Their first game was against Rollins College in front of a handful of fans. Following a poor varsity competition, started in 1927, the head coach at the time was replaced by J. Burton Rix, funded by local businessmen. His time at the college was short lived though because of the 1929 stock market crash and he resigned after just one season at the college. More recently, with the hire of Randy Shannon, the athletics program has been radically transformed from previous years. Multiple jobs were lost, cycled, and given to new people, and even a handful of students were transferred away, but the tale on the field is what matters. In a stunning upset and despite harsh critics, the school pulled out a three win to one loss season open while most had them pegged for at best a two win, two loss, or more likely no win start. With a current record of twenty-one wins and seventeen losses, itís hard to tell what will happen in the coming years.!
