The California Golden Bears of the University of California, Berkeley play their home games at the California Memorial Stadium and are in the Pacific-10 Conference. Their stadium can hold up to seventy-two thousand five hundred and sixteen fans in Berkeley, CA. Their stadium was voted one of the forty best college football stadiums by Sporting News. Overall the team has a generous .564 win ratio composed of six hundred and twenty-four wins, four hundred and seventy-six losses, and fifty-one ties. They have a good postseason bowl record as well with ten wins out of their nineteen games, and one tie in the mix. The school has two of the most notable plays in the history of the sport. The first would come from an unbelievable blunder from Roy Reigels in which he picked up a fumbled ball and returned it almost eighty yards to his own one yard line. Next, commonly known as just “The Play,” in a game between The Golden Bears and their rivals Sanford, the Bears returned a kick for the entirety of the field with five lateral passes, but before the play finished, the Sanford band marched onto the field believe Sanford had won, but a “defending” trombone player was knocked down in the end zone by the returning bear. This is known as “The Play” partially because of the announcer’s zealous commentary and the absolute chaos on the field as well as the aftermath being bogged with endless controversy.
