Born in 1957, Vince Gill’s career has spanned a half century and his latest album, These Days, shows no signs of breaking the chain. His love for Country Music dates back to his stay in high school and the band, Mountain Smoke. It was with the bluegrass band that he would get his first taste of the music business when the band opened for Pure Prairie League. He eventually joined the Pure Prairie League in 1979 and recorded three albums while lead singer for the group. “Let Me Love You Tonight” would become his first top ten hit in 1980. With a notch on his belt, he moved to the Cherry Bombs, Rodney Crowell’s backing band in 1981. Two years later, with a need to pursue his dream, he moved his wife and daughter to Nashville, Tennessee with him. That year, he saw success from his mini-album debut but the next year he reached two Top 10 rankings with hits, “If It Weren’t for Him” and “Oklahoma Borderline.” Then, in 1987, he saw his very first Top 5 hit, “Cinderella.” To fill the space between record releases, he frequently moonlighted as a studio musician, toured, and wrote songs for others. A studio musician is called in by a record label to provide short notice accompaniment for an artist in assorted instruments such as guitar, singing, drums, saxophone, and so on for whatever the song requires. Over Gill’s career, and twelve albums, he has sold in excess of twenty-six million albums, amassed eighteen Country Music Awards, and nineteen Grammy Awards, as well as other prestigious honors to date. In 2007, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
