1956 saw the start of the Kenny Rogers era of Country Music. Rogers affirmed his love for his work will keep him alive since the beginning in his High School 1956 band, The Scholars, and their two popular local singles. Shortly after the release of their second single, the band disbanded and most of the members sought solo careers. Kenny however joined a series of small bands and groups until he eventually became jaded to the pop music industry and embarked on his solo career. He believes that to this day by releasing between twenty-five studio albums during his solo career dating back to 1976. The next two years, he released two albums per year, Kenny Rogers, Daytime Friends, Love or Something Like It, and The Gambler in order. He did the same in 1983 and 1985 with We’ve Got Tonight, Eyes That See in the Dark, The Heart of the Matter, and Love Is What We Make It. During both periods of extreme productivity, Kenny enjoyed number one peak positions on the US Country Charts. The Gambler, Kenny, and Gideon from 1978, 1979, and 1980 respectively all reached the peak position on both the US and Canadian Country Charts proving his powerful influence at the time. Based strictly on his sales, it could be argued that The Gambler and Kenny are his two greatest albums to date, which he recognizes by routinely singing songs from the albums at shows.
