With a debut album hitting the number one spot of the Billboard Charts, Darius Rucker is poised to shock the Country Music Industry with some original vitality. His career in the industry began with the Hootie and the Blowfish as the owner and source of the band’s name. Hootie and Blowfish are both in reference to a couple of Rucker’s college friends which had owl and blowfish resemblances according to him. The band’s first album in 1994 has seen immense success in the form of a sixteen times platinum certification in the United States, Gold in the United Kingdom, and Diamond in Canada. He announced in an interview that the band will split until he has a chance to record three or four country albums, and that the split is more akin to a hiatus while he works on a solo career. Unofficially, this is expected to cut down on the misconception that he is actually “Hootie” as the name of the band implies and will be known for his real name instead as Darius Rucker, Lead Singer of Hootie and the Blowfish. Rucker’s first solo album, Back to Then, in 2002 debuted at the number one spot of the Billboard Heat Charts, which is an accomplishment alone. His next album, Learn to Live would then proceed to reach the peak position in the United States Country Charts and has so far become a Platinum Certified Album.
