The Platters, Coaster, and Marvelettes are a group that sings away the night with the oldies. They will have you singing along in no time. It is said to be a blast from the past that will get guests up out of their seats singing and dancing along with the songs. The band literally makes everyone in the audience feel like they are part of the show whether they know the words to the songs or not. Their music is very upbeat with high energy.
Cornell Gunter is known as the group’s comic genius, he is an original member of the Coaster’s. He left a big impression on the present group such as Steve Smith, Cliff Dawson, Donald Pinkney, and Early Clover (the late Gunter’s cousin). They all like to mess around onstage to the song “Searchin” as Clover goes down into the audience and kisses the ladies, along with singing “Love Potion #9” just to name a few. Clover’s voice is in perfect harmony along with his band mates, he hits the notes strong and clear. At the end of their act the band hits an a cappella number and that’s when they are at their best in the performance.
When the Platters come out on stage they start out with their sweet ballads. They slow it down with “Twilight Time,” “smoke Gets in Your Eyes” and “Only You” which is a perfect contrast to the band before them. The lead vocalists is Derek David, he is the star of belting out these hits as he is backed up by Curtis Bridgeforth, Arnold Parker, and Kristy Brooks. Kristy Brooks also has ties to the original band. The Platters allow the audience to get caught up on the melodies in an understated performance.
The show continues when the Marvelettes come on stage, they are Motown’s first group to have a number one song on the Billboard charts. The Marvelettes bring the magic back with their number one hit known as “Please Mr. Postman” which definitely has everyone in the audience up out of their seats singing and dancing again. This is a timeless show of all the bands and will surely take everyone back in time with a smile on their faces.
