 Blue
Man Group in Las Vegas is held at the
Venetian today but before 2005, the show was
held at the Luxor. The Blue Man Group first
started in New York somewhere around the
late 80’s. It was started by three friends
named Matt Goldman, Phil Stanton, and Chris
Wink, they first started out performing in
the streets and then moved to off-Broadway
shows around the year 1991. The three men
added shows in other cities before they
headed off to Las Vegas in 2000.
The Blue Man Group is a very unique show
compared to all the other shows in Las
Vegas, there are no extravagant costumes and
a lot of performers. There are only three
performers for each show and they are
blue-hued men dressed in black. These men
make music out of things you could never
imagine that would make music as well as
make you laugh and wonder. The three men
never make a sound that comes out of their
mouths, they never speak or sing at all. All
the sound that you hear is going to be the
three men making music with unique style
that is accompanied with a percussion
soundtrack.
When guests walk in to sit down they are
escorted to their seats and told to decorate
themselves with crepe paper, that’s the
first clue to show that this show is like no
other. Some of the unique music the Blue Man
Group makes is banging on drums with bright
colored paint on it that splats onto a big
white paper or using PVC pipe to make
interesting music as well. One thing that
catches everyone off guard is when the Blue
Man Group invites someone from the audience
up to share a snack of Twinkies with them.
The Blue Man Group mimics the person while
they try to eat a Twinkie with a fork and
knife. The audience finds it very humorous.
Most people say watching this show is like
watching an unknown creature getting to know
its surroundings.
The costume takes about forty five minutes
to get into but is fairly easy to take off.
The blue is on their skin comes from
greasepaint and they have a bald skullcaps
over their hair that is glued on. Being a
Blue Man takes a lot of skill and nerve.
Being able to catch things in your mouth and
get in peoples faces on a daily basis is
skilled talent. People of all ages love the
Blue Man Group and find it very interesting
and entertaining at the same time.
