The Royal Links Golf Club is an exceptional golfing experience with most of the holes replicated from course holes in Great Britain played for the British Open classic golf tournament. Caddies are available and suggested, as they not only know about the course, but also knowledgeable in golfing on the course, the history of each hole and very professional. There are many monuments erected to the exciting moments in the Open's history and a champions wall is by the practice green giving credits to the great American golfers that have played the Open. The course record is 67, shot in 2001 and is held by our best; Tiger Woods. Voted 13th by Golfworld Reader's Choice in 2009, out of the top 50 golf courses in the United States. The clubhouse is fashioned after a castle, that increases the feeling of being in Great Britain and playing at one of their courses. It was named one of the best shops in the country in 2004 by Golf World business magazine and rents Footjoy shoes and Callaway clubs; besides selling both and more. They also have art and golf memorabilia for sale to the public for your own memories. The restaurant is aptly called Stymie's Pub and offers food and drink from the island. The course is just 20 minutes from the Vegas strip and was voted one of the top ten courses to play in 1999 by Golf Magazine. This course was a labor of love for the game and history of golf from the country that invented it and has carried forward through time. Although rugged and somewhat difficult for some, it is a wonderful club to master your playing skills and learn a few more. The original idea of honoring the game and its participant has been achieved marvelously and it has become a place of honor for those golfers who will never get to the British isles. The green fees are up there, but cheaper than catching a flight to the isles to play at the same holes that have been completely copied here. It is wonderfully different than any other course in Las Vegas and a joy to play. The style of bunkers used are quite different than we are used to, making the play that much more challenging; and we all know that if we are to advance our skills in this great game, we must fact an adversary worthy of our improving skills and reportoire.
This par 72, 7029 yard course was opened in 1998 and designed by Perry Dye Designs International, with 108 pot bunkers, however, since British courses don't include water in their courses, neither does Royal Links. The holes are the same as the ones in Great Britain right down to the tee, with four par 3s, like the 8th, which is after the Postage Stamp from the Royal Troon, and surrounded by bunkers and 153 yards in distance. Also from the same club, the 17th is 223 yards and bunkered in the front. The number 1 hole is short, but a par 4 and copied after the 10th hole at the Royal Lytham Golf Club. It is a hard dogleg right with raised green and deep bunkers. The 15th is a replica of the 5th at Turnberry Golf Club in Scotland, where in 1997 Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus fought is out for the title.
