Revenge of the Mummy Ride's
not for those who are faint of heart" - Taking their
theme from the 1999 and 2001 summer blockbuster
Mummy and the Mummy returns, this ride combines
a dark ride and a roller coaster with launches,
twisting, and effects to overwhelm the five senses.
As I approached the queue, I had no idea what I
was in for! Suddenly I found myself inside of Imhotep's
tomb, a fully themed Egyptian tomb. It appears that
the tomb had been desecrated by robbers. "I think
the mummy inside is angry" stated one of the visitors.
As I reached for one of the walls, a bug jumped
out at me. We finally navigated our group
into the tomb of curses, a imminent solar eclipse
will empower the Mummy to claim souls of those who
violate his tomb. We finally load into one of the
cars and I could see the eclipse of the sun through
a hole the ceiling. As ride was underway, first
appeared the last surviving tomb raider beckoning
that we "don't go into the chamber." Well, it was
to late to turn back now. Skeletal remains of the
previous tomb raiders seem to be scattered all over
the place as skeletons pounce out at us from every
side. Finally we got beyond the robbers and enter
the room of treasure where there are scenes of the
"The Mummy Returns" and "The Scorpion King." Something
was about to go terribly wrong I thought as lights
shifted to the decaying remains of previous tomb
robbers. The next chamber was utterly horrible as
a Skeleton Warrior drops from the ceiling inches
from our heads. Remember, I'm on a roller coaster
and I can not see the
track. We begin riding up hill and down hill at
high speed until suddenly we stop, but that's not
the end of it, now the car starts to roll backward,
something a roller coaster does not do. Finally,
we come face to face with Imhotep, but before he
can suck out their souls, the eclipse breaks and
he explodes into a Faux Fire right in our faces!

Revenge of The Mummy®
Although
fairly new, Revenge of the Mummy®
has become a very big hit at Universal
Studios Florida®. This roller coaster
of madness is sure to stand your
hair on end. Easy to find, Revenge
of the Mummy is on your right hand
side if you initially start off
at the entrance and continue down
the main road until you see a sign
for its entrance. Once you hop in
line, the anxiety will overwhelm
you.
Take the time to look
at your surroundings as you wait
in line. There is plenty of interesting
artifacts and movie set pieces scattered
through the queue. Other rooms have
interactive pieces such as a touch
sensitive treasure chest that flicker
the lights on and off or a booby
trapped jewel that will spook you
with a blast of air as you reach
for it. After climbing a short set
of stairs at the end, you’ll arrive
at the entrance to your cart.

What makes this ride so great is
that throughout the ride, which
is a roller coaster that is indoors,
the car actually bends with the
track. So instead of it being just
one solid piece moving on the path,
hinges allow each row of passengers
to feel the ride in the same way;
so in reality, the front is no different
or better than the middle or back
row (other than the view of the
darkness). You’ll start the ride
by taking a few twists and turns
through the black abyss. About halfway
through you will think your done
as you pull up to a station only
to find the cursed mummy sends you
through another series of crazy
twists and turns. You’ll end with
a message from the star of the film
The Mummy Brendan Frasier.
Even though this ride hasn’t
been open as long as many others,
it is already one of the most popular
rides in the entire park. An absolute
must, Revenge of the Mummy® should
end up stuck in your head after
riding it. This attraction is easily
one of the most remarkable rides
in Universal Studios Florida®.
