will create the total sensory experience of journeying on foot through the
wilds and native villages of Africa. This 15-acre area, the largest animal
expansion in the park's history, will transport guests to a distant world in
pursuit of encounters with hippopotamuses, giraffes, lions,
baboons, meerkats, crocodiles, hyenas and other
fascinating species.

The
Edge of Africa's trek begins at an encampment where a welcome center
presents daily recordings of animal sightings as well as bronze sculptures
offering hints of soon-to-be-discovered species. Only the subtlest signs of
civilization can be detected as guests are instantly immersed into the
domain of its animal inhabitants. As expeditionary explore the remnants of
an old fishing village, they discover an enchanting riverside habitat where
hippopotamuses, baboons, and various species of fish coexist. Up-close
observations of hippos are made both from above and below the surface of a
large pool while an adjacent spring habitat features an imposing Nile
crocodile. Nearby, a troop of boisterous baboons forage and interact with
the hippos on a lush island habitat
Gwazi
is Busch Gardens Tampa Bay’s mammoth double wooden coaster.
It is also the Southeast’s largest and fastest double wooden roller
coaster, boasting more than 1.25 million board feet of lumber and more
than 2 million bolted connections. Named after a fabled lion with a
tiger’s head, Gwazi races riders through almost 7,000 feet of track
and six "flyby" maneuvers in which trains pass within feet of each
other at crossing speeds of 100 mph.
Gwazi is in reality two distinct coasters intertwined:

has an element that gives riders a slalom sensation, more like a
bobsled than a wooden coaster.
Gwazi Lion’s
highlight is a seemingly continuous number of spirals.
